The Build Challenge theme for the August 2019 LUG Meet Up was BALLS!  NOT (I hear your outrage) to be interpreted in any rude or obscene way, but otherwise up to your own imagination.

Around 20 members met at Fourth and Fifth, Milton Keynes, and enjoyed (after breakfast/brunch), a team on the spot build challenge, a theme bring-along build challenge and a raffle.  The team challenge involved a huge pile of bricks and figs, and a pick and mix of two sports which had to be represented in a pairs team build.

Then, there was the BALLS challenge… among the entries was a couple of GBC modules, a giant ‘football’, a set of planets, a bull (presumably either wordplay or something else is required to fit the brief…), and a a couple of entries depicting BALLrooms.  The winner was newish Alex Mitchell (it was only her third build challenge), and here’s the MOC.

Winner Alex said “The build ended up being three well known ‘Ballroom’ scenes: Cinderella’s ball, The Enchantment Under the Sea Dance (from Back to the Future) and the Yule Ball from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. There was a motor in a central triangle which made the figures spin on the dance floor.  It was my first really challenging build.  Winning that competition inspired me to get stuck into a decent sized table of MOCs at my first Brick Festival show in Nov 2019.
